We help "Clean for the Queen"

Sun, Mar 6th 2016 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Dorothy, Adam, Bruce and Norman help clear rubbish from Kinnersley Wood near Knighton.

Our team arrived at 10am to the car park and, after a cuppa and biscuit, they clambered down to slope to start the collection. In addition to our Rotary volunteers there were three forestry commission staff, two TVEG members and one local volunteer. They split in to two groups TVEG did the view point loop and the rest did the car park stretch. It was commented that Dorothy was like a mountain goat climbing up and down the slope to be sure everything was picked up. It took just under 2.5 hours to litter pick the stretch from the car park to the road where they all met up.

Organiser Megan Coles from the Forestry Commission said "Litter wise I was hoping to pile it all up in one pile and for it to be collected Monday gone, however there was so much  and such a variety 7 locations had to be made. The litter will be collected by a company called MITIE over the next week.
I didn't count the amount of bags collected but there we at least 35 and many odd items, some of which include:
3 fridges
2 car batteries
11 tyres
Car door
Ironing board
Piano keyboard
Bathroom sink
2 TVs
Lawn mower
Sofa
Single bed frame
Double head board
Cooker hob
2 car bumpers
And many more....Many thanks to our volunteers for their help today!"
