Community Noticeboard/ Make a Change - Collecting 'Shrapnel' to Target Ovarian Cancer
Mon 4th April 2016 at 12.45 pm - Mon 18th April 2016 - 11.55 pm
Aiming to collect £50 from our loose change to raise money for the Target Ovarian Cancer campaign in support of The City of St Asaph Rotary Club, we raised £60.07. Thank you for your support!
STOP PRESS - THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT WE RAISED £60.07!
Supporting "Target Ovarian Cancer" for Ovarian Cancer AwarenessFor the next 2 Monday meetings, Hazel and Jayne will be delighted to collect your shrapnel at our Monday meetings - the 11th and 18th April.
Shrapnel is the name commonly given to the loose change that you may leave on the side in your bedroom, in a bowl in the kitchen, in a holder in your car - you get the picture - the 5p, 10p, 1p, 2p and even 20p coins that take up too much room in your purse or pockets.
We need your shrapnel!
In this, we are helping the City of St Asaph Rotary Club in their effort to support "Target Ovarian Cancer" in their World Ovarian Cancer Day campaign this year. We hope to have raised £50 by 8th May 2016 - World Ovarian Cancer Day.
"Target Ovarian Cancer", has launched the 50's Challenge, asking individuals and groups to inform 50 women about the symptoms of ovarian cancer and raise at least £50 throughout the month of May (we are doing it in April) to support their ovarian cancer research and support programs. The reason for the challenge is simply that one in 50 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, so, by informing 50 women one woman might recognise the symptoms and get an earlier diagnosis.
Late diagnosis is one of the main contributors to low survival rates in the UK with only 3% of women very confidently able to name one symptom there is an urgent need to raise awareness. Last year their supporters reached over 50,000 women with events up and down the country.
Target Ovarian Cancer is working to reach more people with information about the symptoms and provide training for GPs. This year they need you to spread the word even further, and raise funds to help us improve early diagnosis.
7,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year in the UK.
What is the 50s Challenge?
We’re asking everyone to tell 50 people about the symptoms of ovarian cancer and raise at least £50 for Target Ovarian Cancer.
One in 50 women will develop ovarian cancer in their lifetime. By giving out 50 leaflets you could help one woman to spot the symptoms and get an earlier diagnosis. The money you raise will help us improve diagnosis and treatment.
