Community/Vocational Service/ FAREPORT TALKING NEWS GETS £500 FROM FAREHAM MEON ROTARY CLUB
President Tony presents a cheque for £500
On Saturday, 16 April 2016, President Tony Billings presented £500 to Carl Cater, Chairman of Fareport Talking News to help with soundproofing their studio. President Tony said “We collected this money in one day outside ASDA in Newgate Lane just before Christmas & Sharon Noble of ASDA requested it be given to one of their sponsored charities. We are very happy to do this to an excellent small local charity operating from Stubbington.”
At a visit to their studio to present the cheque, Carl, Terry Wilson & Sue Lyczywek of Fareport were delighted to get such a generous donation to help keep their vital service going. They explained that they send out 140 USB sticks every week to blind & partially sighted people in the area, with all the key local news recorded on them.
Chairman Carl said “We pick out & record news items from the big local newspapers, The News & Southampton Echo, plus other on line providers like the Gosport Globe. We also record special editions of local council information from Fareham Today & Coastline from Gosport. Our listeners have specially designed players so they can easily be operated, and the Royal Mail send & returns the USBs free of charge.”
Pleased to present a cheque for £500 to Carl Cater of Fareport Talking News this weekend. Their team of volunteers compile & record local news onto a USB stick to send out to people who are blind or have impaired sight – about 140 every week! These photos were taken at their studio at the Stubbington Community Centre – which needs some sound proofing as it is in a separate building right beside the car park (look out for it on the left as you go in!). We collected this money in one day at ASDA, Newgate Lane just before Christmas - & Sharon Noble of ASDA asked that we give this to one of their sponsored charities – which we were very happy to do!
