Recently returned member Chris Drew, was the evening's speaker. His theme was ‘A Brief History of Time’ but Chris was less ambitious than Stephen Hawkins circa 1988
He talked about how time is measured and why we do it. Most of the measurements we use to- day have survived intact since Babylonian time , some 4000 years ago. In Babylon 5 and 12 were mystical numbers and used for all types of measurements. However, only time measurement has stood the test of time and is the world standard.
Within our own lifetime where have L.S.D., gallons, feet and inches, Degrees Fahrenheit gone and how much life is left in hundredweights etc? When, however was the suggestion made that the oldest measurement, that of time. should be replaced ?
