Rotarian Stuart Watkins had a very distinguished career in the Merchant Navy and his father was District  Governor in 1977.
Both Stuart and his wife are still working, he in Bannatyne’s sports club and his wife runs two hair dressing salons.
Stuart stated that C&B was a staunch supporter of Shelter Box and had responded to a number of disasters.
Shelter Box holds a stock of boxes which can be shipped out quickly  and collections made when disasters occur are use to replenish stocks.
There are a number of shelter box versions use to cover various type of disasters.
He showed us a children’s version of the Shelter box video which very informative.
At the end he held a quiz on the contents in a box and we did quite well!
Shelter box was founded in 2000 and over that period more than one million people have been helped.
Andrew Wilson of Grangemouth has taken over Shelter Box responsibility  for our District.
Stuart has 2 shelter boxes which can be borrowed if required.
Brian Buchanan stated that there was little publicity given to the funding provided by Rotary and Stuart said he would see what could be done about this.
When asked about the total funding made by Rotary he stated that he did not have these figures but suggested it was about 50%.
Lindsay pointed out that it was not necessary to fund a box completely and any donation was welcomed.
Doug said that £12,500 had been donated by C&B.
Shelter boxes are sometimes used to shelter people who need help even when a disaster has not occurred.
In his vote of thanks David Cormack stated that as a relatively new member of Rotary he had learned a lot about Shelter Box and was much impressed by what he had heard. He asked the club to show their appreciation
