Iain Gillespie's Community Service Award
Iain Gillespie has been presented with the Rotary Club of Rothesay's Community Service Award
As a young man Iain was a very active officer in the local Boys Brigade. Iain left Bute and spent many years in theatre management, stage direction and production. When he returned to the island he put this to good use helping Bute Players present many successful productions.
Iain also served as a Bute Community Councillor for nine years.
He has been an active secretary of Bute in Bloom. His approach has always been 'hands on' doing much to help displays.
Iain organised the Help Project. A fine example of their work was the tranformation of of the overgrown site at the corner of Mill and Stuart Streets into an attractive rest area.
He recently, successfully, arranged the petition against the closure of Ardencraig Gardens and the destruction of local flower beds.
His current project is the refurbishment of Rotary's memorial bench to Dr. Tom Morton. This is just a flavour of Iain's contribution to life on the Island of Bute.
