Legoland - Kids Big Day Out 2016

A special day out for a group of pupils from Springfield School Witney

arranged by Witney Rotarians as part of the National Rotary Kids Big Day Out scheme. After enjoying the rides and viewing the many Lego models all agreed it had been an enjoyable time.

"Our Day Out to Legoland is an annual event for the senior three classes of Springfield School at Madeley Park in Witney. Some of the students are severely disabled, but are a joy to be with and their carers are completely devoted to their welfare" Reports Rotarian Glyn Rees who led the party..
"We all gather at 9am on the date designated as National Kid's Day Out. We have been going to Legoland for several years and the students, carers and Rotarians look forward to it all year.
Merlin Entertainments (the operators of Legoland) and Plastows (the coach operators) give us an excellent discount and cooperation in the smooth running of the event.
We have been blessed with good weather for the last couple of years and everybody has had a splendid time. This year we took 39 students and 29 carers and 3 Rotarians. I can't say who enjoyed it the most.
We spend four hours on the site and usually only manage to go on four rides, with the difficulty of herding the ensemble around, but it is stress and trauma free.
It is always the most rewarding event I go on and woe betide anyone who tries to steal it off me! I must add my thanks to Grace and Alan Mathews for their uncomplaining help and assistance and to the Rotary club who finance the day".

The Springfield School pupils were not the only ones enjoying a specail treat on the day. Altogether across Great Britain, over 26,000 children took part in the Big Day Out, an initiative jointly delivered by Rotary and KidsOut Charity, which allows disadvantaged children to enjoy exciting visits and trips.

Over 1,700 Rotary volunteers helped to make the day a success, which this year marked the project’s 25th anniversary.

Witney Rotary Club are just one of many clubs who support this annual event and are proud to have been involved every year since the project began.

KidsOut brings fun into the lives of children who have come from difficult backgrounds, escaped domestic violence, or have been disadvantaged in a number of ways. The Big Day Out is just some of the life-changing work that Rotary and KidsOut do to play a key role in shaping the future members of society for the better.

To date, KidsOut have helped over 600,000 children and their families.
