The 1st of July saw me take the chains for my year as president, I have to admit I was nervous as within a few days we were visited by our new district governor John Butler. Things went well , reports given with details to be proud of, that was until I forgot his name… But a few days later Received an e-mail stating how organised we are, and impressed he was with our club.
Things went steady this month, and as usual we helped other groups as follows:
15th July assisted the Paul Butcher and the Porsche club on Weymouth esplanade in marshalling the cars directing them to park all along the seafront and keeping the public safe. It was only later that Rachel admitted that she did not know what the cars looked like, but as least no buses ended up in the queue… Our club received a £20 donation for our assistance and a request to help again next year.
On the 16th we held our monthly table top sale with the same enthusiasm, but the Portland football club failed to turn up due to family problems, so we soon improvised in getting Sue Thorner’s lovely cakes to sell. Profits here went to our benevolent fund.
17th of July was Handover, yet again we were blessed with good sunny weather, a good turn out, nice food, and plenty of pimms, we gave our community award to Paul Merry for his outstanding charity work, then came a surprise award to Rachel for her work within the club. She had no idea and we all felt it was well deserved. I wish to pass on my thanks to everyone who attended and to those who helped, for without you this would not happen!
July 24th was the Cyclecchino Ride for a de-fib to be sited in Easton, £1,500 was raised, just £500 short but is going to be purchased anyway. The British heart foundation who supplies it has offered training to anyone who wishes it, if you do let me know so I can tell Adam.
The weekend 30th and 31st sees the 250th anniversary of St George’s Church and it is hoped some members will attend.
I wish to finish off now as I was told there was only one page for me…..
Again thank you all for your help and advice for this first month and it is always welcomed, just remember no one has the monopoly on good ideas.
