Orica

Ross Whyte addressed us

We were entertained and educated by Ross Whyte on the subject of Orica. Ross is a local Dunfermline boy, born and bred and currently is responsible for the Orica operations in Scotland.

He gave us an introduction to Orica which is an Australian Global business operating in over 100 countries, employing more than 12,000 people involved in supplying products & services to the mining & construction industries, with a base in West Fife for over 60 years employing local people.

In recent years the Orica local Depot has transformed by investing in a new manufacturing facility and nearly doubling the workforce.  This facility is only a few miles to the west of Dunfermline – in WEST FIFE – on the road to Oakley!

The company derived from the old ICI company and as such continued on with certain aspects of ICI’s product range and has developed into a huge entity.  For example, we learned that the plant in West Fife manufactures all of a particular product for the whole of the UK and Ireland – and it is just down the road from us.

It was a very entertaining talk also as Ross told stories of the effect some of his products could have if not controlled properly but we were impressed by the fact that the company has a ZERO number of accidents/incidents of note.

Altogether it was an extremely interesting talk especially as it was from a local guy on a local entity of which we knew nothing.
