Fife Gingerbread

The weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy was held at the Dean Park Hotel on Tuesday 12th July. President Mark Rossiter welcomed 27 members of the club and three guest to the meeting.

President Mark announced the resignation of Jack Dempsey from the club and ushered his thanks for the work Jack has done both in the local community and for the Club over the last 7 years. President Mark went on to mention the successful joint fellowship meeting with Glenrothes Rotary Club which took place on Thursday 7th July at the Annapurna Gurkha restaurant in Kirkcaldy, 20 attended and thanks were mentioned to Gobinda for such a great meal.

There were no visits to other clubs, however PP Iain Gow had recently attended a youth exchange meeting with the RYLA participants.

Secretary’s notices included a reminder of the Cabaret organised by Leven PP Allan Bullions and also highlighted two events with Michele Osten Jazz Vocalist who will be visiting Fife in September. Mention was also made of the District Conference which is to be held in Aberdeen on the 28th October.

The speaker was Rhona Cunningham from Fife Gingerbread, she opened by asking that if anyone had a spare banknote on them could they put it on the table, she quickly added that this was not going to be taken as a donation. Rhona went on to describe the Charity’s work spanning their 30 year existence and explained the role of some of the projects within the charity. She highlighted the need to feed families through the school holidays and also mentioned how the festive packages of food, clothing and other essentials helped the families cope over times such as Christmas. At the end of her talk Rhona explained that not one of the families they support would not be able produce a spare banknote as we had all done at the beginning of the talk.

Dr. Swapan Mukherjee gave the vote of thanks referring to the fact that as a GP he had been well aware of Fife Gingerbread for many years and greatly appreciated the work they do and understood the challenges they must face in supporting over 400 families.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 19th July at the Dean Park Hotel.
