Our guest speaker yesterday evening was our very own Rotarian Karen Hewkin and her friend of many years Wendy Bennett. Karen gave a talk about her time in the WRAF from the age of 14 years when she became a Cadet before signing up for the WRAF for 13 years. Karen and Wendy met in this time and have become best friends ever since. It was a privilege to hear Karen's "About Me" talk and she had many highlights in her career which she revealed but found it difficult to pin point one as she had many stories to tell, maybe it was her posting at RAF Scampton where she supported the Red Arrows and had a honour to meet the late Princess Diana, or her Remembrance Day Parades she has taken place in at the Cenotaph, or even the being part of the parade which lead the gun carriage of Lord Mountbatten's funeral cortege....whatever the highlight it was truly inspiring to hear of Karen's career and friendships she made and enjoyed during her service in WRAF.
