AUGUST 2016

President's Diary

When I took the position of club president I expected problems but not as soon as August…

The situation presented us a challenge in finding alternative venues for our weekly meetings, but as usual our members came up trumps. Julia with her kind offer of the use of her garden for our fish & chips in the open, and Chrissie in organising the Balti house, which both proved a success.

I was  absent on the 16th and Garry offered to stand in for me, this proved a good choice as I heard that he did well and finished in record time, one to watch out for there I feel!

The table top sale went well and raised about £280 for Rotary funds, well done everyone.

Mark has been busy with organising the Nepal funds and on Tuesday. I signed the grant application on behalf of the club, to continue the projects in supplying water to the villages.

The Vire trip is getting close and 11 of us are going, wish us a happy trip leaving on the 16th Aug.

Alan offered to get the money from the Portland Bill wishing well, over £200 which I was impressed with only to find out he used his grandson, but thanks anyway and can I suggest that that all of us try this as its worth the experience and the embarrassment.

On 30th Aug, we had our guest speaker Abigail who talked to us about reflexology used on the Fortunewell cancer ward at DCH, to help relax and support patients as the go through their medical treatments.

On the same evening we had a Rotary visitor, Richard Watts from Kew gardens. He was on holiday and noticed our board while having a cuppa at the jail house cafe and decided to join us for a meeting and meal.

For the 13th September, we decided that as the Aqua again cannot fit us in to have a meal at the swan and bowling after, so the meeting on Sep 20th will be combined business and council.

Regards to you all and thank you for your patience during the problems with meeting venues, if I had some hair I would be pulling it out...

(David)
