Local author, Janice Ross visited Cambuslang Rotary Club in September to speak about her experiences living on the Hebridean island of Barra.
Janice, who was born in Hamilton but grew up in Whitlawburn spent a number of years living on Barra. During that time she became involved with the community radio station, developing her own programme, Barra Island Discs. Over the 5 years the programme ran she interviewed over a fifth of the local residents hearing their views on island life with subjects ranging from clan chief Rory McNeil to members of the Barra football team. Each of them provided her with their own unique stories and Janice has collected a selection of these interviews into her book Voices Galore.
Janice proved to be a most entertaining speaker and impressed everyone with her skillful storytelling and her clear love of the island. All of the audience agreed that they were adding Barra to their list of places they wanted to visit
