We held our annual charity golf competition on Thursday 11th August, at Duns Golf Club

The Winners

The Rotary Club of Duns once again ran our Charity Golf Day, courtesy of Duns Golf Club, last Thursday 11th August.

29 teams took part and the early teams endured wind and rain but still returned some very creditable scores.  The rain cleared for those who tee-d off at lunchtime but the wind grew in force and combined with a short, sharp shower to make things quite difficult for the teams.

The best two stableford scores at each hole were added together to provide the final score – 72 being level par.  Scores were lower than in previous years but many teams returned better than 72 which is a tribute to the quality of golf played in difficult conditions.

Steven Blaikie led his team comprising Steven, James Brydon, Colin Anderson and Robert Cockburn, to a storming win with 90 points, well ahead of the rest of the field.

In second place was the Auld Dingers Team of Derek Bates, Alan Luggate, Alex Trotter and Eddie Noble with a score of 87.

Third, just beating Aitken Walker’s team with a better back nine, were Fleming Homes with Mike Kehir, Hayden Martin, Cameron Hill and Ewan Brown with a score of 85.  Fleming Homes very generously returned their prize money to boost the funds.

The Rotary Club would like to thank all who contributed to make the day such a success, particularly the main sponsors A & R Brownlie, BHA Homes, Farne Salmon, Greenvale AP and Simpsons Malt.

Many others also contributed to raffles, sponsorship of holes and spot prizes.  A hearty thanks to all.

A very big “thank you” to all the 29 teams who braved the typical summer weather, bought raffle tickets in abundance and contributed greatly to the fun.  See you next year!

The day raised £4,283 in total which will be used by the Rotary Club to support local charities and good causes.
