Since we started in November 2011 we have fed and supported 47,234, this included 16,887 children.
Across the UK between 1st April 2015 and 31st March 2016 1,109,309* three-day emergency food supplies were provided to people in crisis who needed the help of food banks, of this number 415,866* went to children. The North West was the largest region in the country with 160,048* people (including 61,750* children) receiving three-day emergency food supplies. Of this number Merseyside accounted for 59,603*, with Wirral Foodbank providing 11,735* people with emergency food, this included 4,223* children. (*figures supplied by Trussell Trust)
The Foodbank principle is based on giving a small amount of food – in our case just three days worth – to people who suddenly find themselves without any food or money to buy it; this can be for a range of reasons.
We collect and distribute non-perishable food; we are always in need of the following food items – tinned vegetables, tinned fruit, tinned tomatoes, long grain rice, pasta, pasta sauce, UHT milk and tinned/packet soup. The majority of our food is donated by local people, without this support we could not operate. Thank you to all who donate so generously.
If you would like to support us you can donate food at various locations, including Tesco Bidston, Tesco Bebington and Tesco Heswall, Sainsbury’s Upton, most Co-op stores and all One-Stop Shops.
