Bowls Winners!

.

At the District 1030 Outdoor Bowls Pairs Competition, held at the Riverside Park, Chester-le-Street on 6th September, 2006, members Tom Wilkes and Brian Slinn won the T. Dorman Stewart Trophy after a long and hard-fought game.  They are seen here (Brian on the left and Tom on the right) receiving congratulations and their trophy from President Eddy Nicholson at the regular Club meeting on the following day.

Brian has supplied the following report of the match.

"The competition was for 16 teams of pairs who played in four groups.  Each group played the other teams in their group once, i.e. three matches (of four woods) of either nine ends or one hour duration whichever came first.  That involved three hours play.  The winners of each group went forward to a semi-final of the same length and then the final.

In all, five games and five hours of bowling.  Quite an exhausting day, especially for an 81 year old - (Tommy (who is remarkably fit), not me).  There was only one break which was for tea after the round robin stage.

We won all five games!"
