VRotary Club of Duns
Prostate Scotland – 27 April 17

Adam Gaines of Prostate Scotland addressed the Club on Thursday 27 April and told members about the cancer which affects as many as 1 in 10 of the male population.  It is particularly prevelant in older men with as many as 49% of men over 65 living with prostate cancer.
However, detection is improving as the population becomes more aware of the symptoms and are able to seek early intervention this means that survival rates are now at 80%.
Prostate Scotland is working hard to inform, educate, support, campaign and advise on treatment.  Their web site has a “Symptom Checker” programme to help those who are worried about the disease. This can be found at  www.prostatescotland.org.uk.
Adam also told the Club about the Blue Horizon Robot Appeal which successfully raised £2.8m to buy and install two robot surgery machines, one in Glasgow and one in Edinburgh, to provide robot assisted surgery.
Prostate Scotland is working closely with Rotary Clubs across Scotland to raise funds and awareness.
