'Kids Out!', Rotary Youth Leadership Award Scheme (RYLA), Young Carers, Wessex Life Education, 'Kids Out on the Water'; these are just a few of the causes that the Youth Committee support

Many of the projects that we become involved with require Rotarians to give up some of their time to make a difference such as manning the Apple Pressing event at the Emsworth Food Festival; 'Kids Out!', which is a national project involving Rotary Clubs throughout the UK in providing a day out for disadvantaged children; helping Young Carers learn to cook and making sure they have an opportunity to have fun with trips to scalextric and the pantomime. We support local schools to enter the Young Chef competition, which sees budding young caterers across the District competing for certificates and prizes, not to mentionthe prestige associated with the award .

We select and sponsor one or two outstanding students from local schools for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA). RYLA events are for young people aged 16 to 17 years, who are about to start their working lives or to enter higher education, and who have shown leadership potential and are likely, as adults, to become future leaders.  Students are put into mixed groups of complementary ability where they take part in outdoor activities.  They are placed in challenging situations to help develop leadership and team bonding skills and to increase personal confidence.

Sometimes we are able to support other projects with a small financial donation and some of the projects we have supported recently include Hannah's Holiday Homes, which helps families going through a tough time with sick children to have a holiday. We helped with a donation to Hayling Community Centre to provide cutlery and china to support their work in the community and we have raised funds for Hampshire Air Ambulance through a Golf Day. We have also continued to support Wessex Life Education which seeks to explain to children the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.
