Projects for Schools

  Eco Greenhouse Project

This ecology project uses plastic bottles to create a functioning greenhouse.The project aims to encourage young people to:

· Learn about recycling

· Learn basic construction skills

· Learn about growing food

The kits are provided by Rotary in partnership with a local business.  Schools are responsible for collecting the plastic bottles. 

The greenhouse takes approximately two days to build and pupils are encouraged to be involved with the basic construction.  They are then set to grow a variety of vegetables and plants


   Purple 4 Polio Campaign

For over 30 years, Rotary International and its members have been committed to eradicating polio across the world. 

With  eradication closer than ever, the latest campaign Purple 4 Polio is designed to unite  communities to      engage in activities as part of the final push to eliminate this terrible disease.

The symbol of the campaign is the purple crocus.

How can you help Rotary Make a Difference?

· Hold an event for example “Wear Purple to School Day”

· Sell crocus badges and/or bulbs, supplied by Rotary

· Plant crocus bulbs, supplied by Rotary


   Inter School Concert

The inter-school concert is an opportunity for primary and secondary schools in the area to showcase their pupil’s musical talents.

 The aim of the concert is to

· Bring the schools  in the area together to celebrate music

· Showcase pupils musical talent

· Give pupils the opportunity to perform on stage

The concert will take place on Monday 6th February 2017 at Ashfield School.


Who can take part?

All primary and secondary schools  in the local Kirkby in Ashfield      area .  Schools are invited to enter musical acts into the concert.

Kirkby Young Artist

The young artist competition is open to children who attend school in the  Kirkby in Ashfield area.

The theme of the competition is


 The competition aims to encourage young people to:

· Experiment with any form of artistic expression including painting, collage, sculpture, photography, sketching.

· Demonstrate their interpretation of the theme

· Express their ideas through the medium of their choice

 Who can take part?

Junior    7 to 10 years old

Intermediate 11 to 13 years old

Senior 14 to 17 years old

  (ages at 1st September .2016)

How to enter

Entries should be accompanied by the application form available here                      

Forms to be emailed to by 1st March 2017

                              Winning entries will be displayed in Childrens’ Area

of the Kirkby in Ashfield Library
