Young Chef 2016 at Richard Lander School

Six contestants took part in this year's school event, judged by local catering professionals Ben Harmer, chef at Penrose Kitchen, Shortlanesend, and Andy Chown of Fifteen, Watergate Bay,


The first prize went to Scarlett Berry for her main course of pan fried mackerel fillets and garlic with mushroom, sauté potatoes, and salsa verde followed by deconstructed cheesecake with plum compôte and hazelnut crumble.

Second place was awarded to Lizzie Haversham for her menu of tomato and chicken pasta with garlic bread, followed by raspberry delight and almond praline shards.

Coming third was Abbie Harrison with her contribution of slices of pea, ricotta, and mozzerella tart with chilli and lemongrass accompanied by an interesting salad.  For pudding she offered a chunky chocolate and sour cherry brownie with Cornish clotted cream.
