NOVEMBER 2016

Diary

Here is my last diary for this calendar year November ‘16

November started as usual with the table top sale for Portland 2nd scouts and due to some excellent advertising, cakes and support from the children and parents, they managed to raise over £500 - well done everyone.

On the same day, Nov 12th, Janet arranged another successful Christmas shopping trip to Bath, raising a fantastic £451 for Rotary. Thanks to everyone who donated raffle prizes.

On the 13th some of us attended the remembrance service and this year was different as we were asked to help with traffic management, well done Rachel for your efforts and I pass on Reverend T Gomm’s thank you. After the service at the Heights, I attended the American memorial  service at Victoria gardens, where I laid a wreath.

I will keep this diary short as Christmas greetings will take up a lot of room in Porthole, I hope?

Our Guest night was attended by a friend of mine, Wane Ingram. He gave an interesting talk regarding a young man who he met while in Bosnia, who he supported and helped to raise funds for several corrective facial surgeries needed as he grew up. He also gave a short history of his fund raising efforts during and after his army days and his current wish to continue, you may remember his week in a survival raft in Weymouth Harbour, which raised over £12,500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital?

Anyway, Santa is getting ready to visit the children and I wish you all a happy Christmas and don’t forget the mince pies….
