Club Meeting - Cheques Presentation

Tue, Jun 13th 2017 at 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Cheques for some of the proceeds of last week's D-Day Anniversary Concert were presented.

Senior vice-president Gordon Burgess welcomed 13 other members and lunch guest Jacqui King, musical director of the West of Scotland Military Wives Choir. A.J.Hardy, conductor of the HMS Neptune Volunteer Band, was only able to join the meeting after lunch.

The secretary read a letter from Denis Taylor confirming his resignation as a full member of the club with effect from June 30, and thanking members for electing him as an associate member for 2017-18.

Denis wrote: "Rotary has greatly enriched my life, and with over 40 years as a member under my belt, being an associate member will allow me to continue to enjoy the wonderful fellowship of Helensburgh Rotary Club."

D-Day Anniversary Concert convener Derek Hall said that it had been an absolutely fabulous concert attended by 230 people which raised £1,900 for charity. There had been tremendous feedback, which showed that the event put the club on the map locally.

"Jacqui and A.J. were exceptionally helpful to me in organising the programme," he said. "The 75th anniversary of D-Day is in two years time — perhaps we can think about repeating it then."

Gordon Burgess presented A.J. with £550 for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and a contribution to band funds, and £450 to Jacqui for the Military Wives Choir. In due course the Help The Heroes charity will receive £1,000, and Helensburgh Sea Cadets, who assisted at the concert, will receive £300.

Jacqui made the draw for the weekly raffle for a whisky miniature, and the winner was — appropriately — Derek Hall.
