Stroud and Cotswold Citizen's Advice
Sally Pickering from Citizens Advice, Stroud District talked to the club about the activities of the organisation.
She exploded a few myths about Citizens Advice and showed that now they give a lot of advice to the 25 to 35 year age group and that most of their advice on benefits is for people who are in work on lower pay.
With 93 staff, including 80 volunteers, they gave advice to 3000 people last year, 353 of them from Stonehouse from a one day a week Outreach.
They achieve these high numbers as they have expanded their service to include the Internet and telephone.
Sally also talked about the Help Through Crisis Project, where Citizens Advice link up with the Stroud Food Bank, APT Centre, Community Transport and the Childrens Centre to provide coordinated support, with Citizens Advice now making the most referrals of people to the food bank.
Following the talk the Club presented Sally with a check for £250 for Citizens Advice from the Carol Float collection.
