Club Meeting
Sanjiwani Blind Hostel in Dhulikel, Nepal while husband John taught during
his sabbatical from Long Marton School. Their visit followed devastating
earthquakes in Nepal which led to Paula’s involvement with The Juniper
Trust, a charity dedicated to supporting the poorest communities,
particularly their children, in many parts of the developing world. Working
with John and Paula, the charity has embraced the challenge of re-creating
the hostel. The project has cost £20,000 and with this cheque for £750 from
the Rotary Club of Penrith, over £15,000 has now been raised. This has
allowed the number of children at the hostel to increase to over 30 as
additional facilities, including a fully equipped kitchen, hot water, solar
lighting and a safe playing area has been provided. The children aged from 6
to 17 can now enjoy a much better quality of life thanks to the generosity
of the people of Penrith.
