Youth Speaks Competition - Area Final held at Cardiff Golf Club

Both the Intermediate and Senior teams from Whitchurch High School who were sponsored by this club enjoyed success. They were runners up in both competitions. In the senior competition Linus Kirkwood won the prize for the best Vote of Thanks.

The evening was organised by Assistant Governor Gareth Rees with the support of the Rotary Club of Llanishen. The Adjudicators were from the Cardiff Speaking Club, the timekeeper was Richard Cunningham and the Questioner was Mark Worwood (both from this club).

There were five teams in each competition. The Intermediate competition was won by the team from St John's College sponsored by RC Llanishen and the senior competition by the team from Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg sponsored by RC Barry. The standard was extremely high throughout the competition. The winning teams go on to the District Round to be held at Cowbridge Comprehensive School on Saturday 11th March.

The Intermediate team from WHS was: Rose Cooper, Chair; Megan Mooreland, Speaker and Jessica Bright, Vote of thanks. Their topic was: "This house believes that euthanasia should be legalised".

The Senior team from WHS was: Jessica Vasey, Chair; Maddie Emery, Speaker and Linus Kirkwood, Vote of Thanks. Their topic was "Immigration is negaively portrayed in the media".
