DECEMBER 2016 + JANUARY 2017

President Dave's Diary

Here goes…

Dec and Jan have both been a busy time, starting with the planning for the Tesco collection, assembly of the sleigh with the help of Mark and Cliff and thanks go to Carolyn  for storing it, Santa appreciates that.

On the 5th of December  it was party time for some older members of Portland and we helped by giving them transport to the event.

Friday 9th of December saw Santa, Sleigh and Elves at the annual Easton Christmas Promise evening, with children queuing round the corner and generous donations from the community.

Our social Christmas Party, held at the Aqua was December 10th, was yet again well attended with a tasty meal - I was not there for the dancing but led to believe was enjoyed.

December 17th was the children’s Xmas party, this was well organised yet again and to see all the children smiling brings a warm feeling to the grown ups.

Santa did his duty and toured the Island over 3 nights, this was well supported and all the elves behaved.

The mulled wine evening 20th December at Ian's was a delight and funds were raised for coast watch.

The Christmas Day present delivery was a first for me and very enjoyable With Santa-Gary assisting with Pat as driver.

During the Christmas period we all had a rest (well deserved).

On January 4th Sheila organised some help to the singing for the brain group for a post Xmas meal.

Back at the club, We held  an additional guest evening, which was well attended. Mark, Richard Backwell and Richard Brind  talked about their trip to Nepal in November 2016, the new projects being planned for 2017 and the successfully completed projects – some 20 water supplies have been completed since the Okle Village Trust was formed.

After the talk Richard Backwell was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow Award for his work in raising funds to complete these projects, and we also heard about the fantastic wok he has done with other groups over the years, like Muntsy’s and the Dorset Expeditionary Society.

Other donations were given some to assist the guides to lead groups, £1.000 from Portland club with a further £1.000 District Grant

I received a letter from Richard thanking us for the help given and another letter of thanks for Racheal for a donation,

The last guest evening 31st January was a talk by Jerry Hallet on his love of Bee keeping this was well presented and informative and fun.

The final entry has to be for Burns night 28th January this was enjoyed by all it was well organised and lots of dancing, rasing a fantastic sum. well done and thanks to Janet and her team for planning and arranging it all.

In conclusion, well done to the club and thanks to every one of you for your help.

Yours in appreciation

David
