The three, from different parts of the world, had each fought through fierce competition to win their Scholarship for a years Post Graduate Studies at Oxford funded by The Rotary Foundation, Rotary’s own Charity.
First to address the large audience was Ginger Cline from New Haven, Connecticut USA, sponsored by Rotary District 7980 and hosted by Witney Rotarian Keith Crawford. Ginger is reading for an MSc in Refugee & Forced Migration Studies at the Centre for Refugee Studies at Oxford.
Next to take the floor was Kate Kelly from New Zealand, Sponsored by the Rotary District 9920 and hosted by Tim Herbert of Bicester Rotary Club. Kate’s subject touched on a different aspect of life: she is reading for an MSc in Clinical Embryology at the Dept. of Medical Sciences at Oxford.
The third member of the visiting trio was Michaela Dolk from Australia, sponsored by District 9680 and hosted by the Rotary Club of Eynsham. Michaela is reading for an MSc in Water Management at the School of Geography.
During an interesting evening each speaker described their home surroundings, their reasons for pursuing their chosen subjects and speculated where their specialist knowledge might take them in the future.
All three agreed that the opportunity to spend a year studying at Oxford was an incredible opportunity and each revealed that, in their different ways, they were making the most of their free time to meet with a wide number of students from different disciplines.
