The Community and Vocational committee’s responsibilities are to support the local charities in the Havant area and those individuals who need particular help. The committee may give equipment, a donation or some support in terms of manpower for events in the area. Rotary members, members of the public, charities and individuals are all able to let the committee know that there is a need for help. The committee then asks a member to investigate the request, talk to those concerned and report back. A decision can then be made that is fair and in keeping with Rotary principles of charitable giving and aid to those who need it at the time. We give and have given support to Blood Pressure Day, to the Southern Domestic Abuse service (SDAS), the Food Bank, Solent MS, Angel Radio, Emsworth Apple Pressing Day, and Havant Young Carers amongst many over the years. All members of the club are involved at different times in the work of the committee.
The Vocational aspect is our responsibility to keep ourselves informed about the work and needs of local businesses both in Havant and the local area. We have visited Colt engineering, Nature’s Way, Oakwood Crematorium, and soon the Mary Rose. We are always looking to learn about our area and encourage businesses to learn about our work too. We welcome new members whose expertise helps the work of our committee.
