About me

My name is Janice Fisher and I am a trained and qualified lipreading tutor.

I started to lose my hearing about fifteen years ago. It has been a gradual loss and only started to have an impact on my daily life over the last five years. I also suffer from tinnitus which I have had from the age of eighteen. Unfortunately, like for many people with a hearing loss, I find speech particularly difficult to hear clearly. Initially I struggled to come to terms with my hearing loss; I was embarrassed to wear hearing aids and felt stupid when I was unable to always follow a conversation.

I decided that I needed to help myself as much as possible so started wearing hearing aids and attended a Lipreading class as a student. I learnt how to identify certain lip shapes and tactics to improve the environmental factors to maximise my residual hearing. As a result I gained confidence, acquired lipreading skills and learnt how to manage my hearing loss.

I am qualified as a Lipreading teacher to adults with an acquired hearing loss*, from The City Lit in London.

I run Lipreading classes in Bath and the surrounding area. I also offer one to one tuition with adults who have an acquired hearing loss.

* Acquired hearing loss is a hearing loss that has occurred or developed after birth.
