9th Unofficial Poppy Walk - 2017

Sun, Jun 4th 2017 at 10:30 am - 3:00 pm

A fun day out in London for charity

The 9th Unofficial Poppy Walk will take place on Sunday 4 June 2017

The full details are as follows: -

This year we start from a new location. Meet us at the centre of Bunhill Fields (just off City Road, north of the Honourable Artillery Company ground), between 10.30 and 12 noon to collect your map and final instructions.  The map contains 20 questions to answer en-route.  There is a prize for the team with the most answers right in the quickest time.  The closing time for completing the walk is 4pm.

We use maps given to us by the Royal British Legion, which were leftover when the official Poppy Walk was held in July of the previous year.  The entry fee is £10 per adult, children go free.  All proceeds go to the British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The walk is approximately 10kms (6 miles) starting at City Road , then roughly south east through Spitalfields and Whitechapel to Wapping.  Turning west the route passes St Katharine Docks, the Tower of London and continues along the north bank of the Thames to the Victoria Embankment.  From here, the return leg is via the Strand, Fleet Street, Holborn, Smithfield, the Barbican and past the Honourable Artillery Company site to the finish line.

It should take approximately 3 hours to complete the circular walk (depending on how long you take for lunch). The walk will go ahead whatever the weather.

If you’ve been on other Unofficial Poppy Walks you will know how enjoyable they are.

We hope you would like to take part this raising money for a deserving cause.
