Kegworth student and changing the future

Not science fiction, just hard work

Sixteen year old Ben Dawson, a Kegworth lad, is heading for an adventure of a lifetime.  Not only will his future be changed, but that of many others will also be altered for the better.

He has volunteered with Camps International to go, in 2018, to Titicaca in Peru, where he will be involved in building community facilities such as classrooms, toilets and irrigation projects.

He is supported by his school, Hind Leys, and hopes to make an impact in an area that is the poorest in Peru and very isolated from other communities.  The aim is to provide more schooling for local children, improving not only their lives, but those of their parents and future generations.

Ben will learn many new skills such as mixing cement, digging ditches and planting crops, to name just a few.  All of these experiences will be a solid foundation for his future after he finishes his academic studies.

The first hurdle he has to overcome is raising sponsorship money for his trip, about £4300, with nearly half going to the Peruvian people to purchase local commodities.  Shepshed Charnwood Rotary Club is delighted to help him to achieve his goals and we look forward to him returning and recounting his exploits.
