Vocational talk - Ken Cowe

.

Speaker at this week's club meeting was one of our newest members, Ken Cowe - pronounced like Seb Coe only spelt with a w and sounding like a brand of coffee.

Ken certainly blended a very full and informative vocational talk and was congratulated on mastering Powerpoint - at his first attempt.

Born in Alyth in Perthshire, Ken attended Perth Academy, undertook a CA apprenticeship with Miller, McIntyre and Gellatly in Dundee as a stepping stone to be engaged by Cooper Brothers in Liverpool.

Members listened in envy at being in such a location during the swinging sixties and as he rattled off the famous names he followed at the local football team - Ron Yeates, Billy Stevenson, Ian St John and Bill Shankly.

Moving to Fife in 1971 to take up a job at the Dunfermline Building Society, Ken enjoyed the good old days of banking. Present through years of phenomenal growth, the presence of Dunfermline Building Society branches all over the country brought pride to the town making its eventual demise in the years after his retrial a sad affair for Ken.
