Brian Oosthuysen - the work of Stroud Foodbank
Councillor
Brian Oosthuysen gave the club an inspiring and informative update on the work
of Stroud Foodbank and its affiliates Kids Stuff and Furniture Bank. Brain is a
well known Labour and Co-Operative councillor for Rodborough and Stroud who is
a retired teacher (he taught club member Julian!) and has lived in and served
the local community for 40 years. He and Will Mansell were the initial driving
force behind the Trussell Trust linked Foodbank which now supplies 44 tons of
food to the needy and hungry amongst our locality. Brain gave us moving
accounts of the important work of all the volunteers and workers of Foodbank
and its affiliates do helping and supporting those who have fallen on hard
times or had a crisis in their lives – the compassion and support Foodbank
gives clearly goes far beyond the essential supply of food to the hungry. Brian
explained the history, growth and development of the charity and we all shared
the sadness that in our locality and nation there is such a need for this
resource but are so grateful that it exists and does so much. The club were
delighted to be able to give some financial support and thanked Brian for all
his efforts and for his illuminating talk.
