Presentation of cheques to charities

Kilrymont St. Andrews Rotary president John Spittal handed over cheques to three  organisations at the club's weekly meeting.
Jack Hao, representing Madras College Pipe Band, received £500, Paul Noble, of Disability Sport Fife, accepted £800 and Kidneys for Life was awarded £800, handed over to James Yule.
Sixth-year pupil Jack is a piper in the band which was started 24 years ago with six pipers and four drummers.
The band now has 40 members in the piping class and 35 drummers.
Jack thanked the Rotary club for its continuing support.
Chairman of Disability Sport Fife, Paul has competed in five successive Paralympic Games from 1984 winning 15 medals including four golds. 
An accountant with Fife Council, he was recognised for his contribution to swimming by being awarded an MBE.
Paul thanked the club for its very close and enduring association with the Fife group.
Club member James Yule was delighted to accept the cheque on behalf of Kidneys for Life.
The charity has been supporting research into kidney disease, transplantation and dialysis for nearly 40 years and in the last five years has awarded over £650,000 to various projects.
James, whose own daughter received a successful transplant four years ago, said that kidney disease was a major health issue in the UK. Around 180,000 people have some form of kidney disease and 37,000 suffer from end-stage renal failure and are receiving life-saving treatments.
James took part in a Great Wall of China charity trek in October 2016 and raised over £6000 for Kidneys for Life.
James thanked the club members for their support.
