This year our club took part in an exciting new venture. This started back in the autumn when we approached six of our local primary schools and asked them if they would like to take part in our Art Competition.
The competition was for P7 pupils who were asked to design and produce a poster based on our local Cambuslang Summerfest. The club also gave each school a donation to cover the costs of any art materials they might need to purchase. We had over 160 entries with all the pictures being of a high standard but after much deliberation the judges selected a winning picture from each school and also an overall winner.
On Wednesday the 10th May the club organised a prize-giving evening at the Kings Park Hotel to which the winners, their parents and a teacher from each school were invited to join Rotary members and their guests. We had two special guests to help present the prizes, John Edgar the chair of Summerfest and Douglas Dickie, editor of the Rutherglen Reformer. The winning entries were also on display for everyone to see and admire.
The evening began with a welcome from Club President Bill Crombie who welcomed everyone and introduced the guests before inviting everyone to help themselves to the buffet supper. After supper we then progressed to the highight of the evening which was of course the prizegiving! All the young artists were voted a credit to their parents and their schools. The evening concluded with a vote of thanks to all the members of the club who had helped to organise this very successful event.
