Club Meeting — Douglas Dow

Tue, Oct 17th 2017 at 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Douglas Dow spoke on the topic 'Bang!', a history of guns, and Graham Smith proposed the vote of thanks.

President Gordon Burgess welcomed fourteen other members and two guests, Henri Van Der Stighelen and former rotarian Rae MacKay.

Foundation convener Alastair Wilson reported that last Thursday morning, in partnership with the Helensburgh Garelochside club, some 2,000 Polioplus crocus corms were planted in grassy areas at the top of Sinclair Street, opposite the skating pond.

The speaker was Douglas Dow, who gave an erudite account of the history of guns over the centuries, and passed round a fascinating collection of old guns and various types of shot. Graham Smith proposed the vote of thanks.

The president pointed out that next Tuesday was World Polio Day, and said that he would speak about progress in the fight against the diseasse. The weekly raffle for a whisky miniature was won by Alastair Wilson.
