President Gordon Burgess welcomed fourteen other members, and referred with great regret to the death of Betty Arbuthnott, a former member of the Helensburgh Garelochside club and former session clerk of Rhu Parish Church.

Her first marriage was to Helensburgh club member and past president the late Charlie McCrea, and she played a big part in both his business and his active life in rotary. After his death she developed the business and ran it successfully for several years.

Jack Rudram reported that the Primary Schools Quiz had been held at Cardross Primary, and was won by the Lomond School team who now go forward to the District 1230 final.

Adam Muggoch reported that he and the president attended the District 1230 final of the Young Musician competition in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. The standard was exceptionally high, and the Helensburgh qualifiers were not placed.

Douglas Dow reported that eleven tables took part in the annual Bridge Night in Helensburgh Rugby Club in aid of Mercy Ships, when £800 was raised — including £360 from the raffle run by Derek Hall. He thanked all who assisted and gave raffle prizes.

Mike Jane reported that he would be meeting the manager of the George Hotel at Inveraray on Saturday to discuss the Six Clubs Dinner, to be held on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday in September.

The president announced that the 2018 District 1230 Conference will be held in the Golden Lion Hotel, Stirling, on October 6 and 7.

The weekly raffle for a whisky miniature was won by Jack Rudram.
