Dr.Geetha Upadhyaya OBE Artistic Director told us about Kala Sangam the Centre for South Asian Arts, dancing, music. -------------- Speaker Finder Alan Arthur, Visitor's Host, Grace & Banners David Burrows, Cash Desk Robert Allan

Unfortunately the Chief Executive, Ajit Singh, had to cancel on the 8th but through the skills of Derek O'Hearne we had the artistic director and founder of Kala Sangam - Dr.Geetha Upadhyaya OBE.  She was accompanied by her husband who is a consultant psychiatrist at Yorkshire Clinic.  Dr Upadhyaya lectures at Leeds University.

Kala Sangam is the Centre for South Asian Arts, dancing, music and is based in the Old Post Office at the bottom of Church Bank.

Alan Booth from Rance, Booth and Smith Architects in Shipley did a great job of adapting the building to create offices, theatre, exhibition spaces and a cafe on the top floor overlooking the Cathedral. The relationship of both buildings has had its critics and a visit by our club in the future would no doubt create some interesting thoughts.

We would then in conjunction with Robert Askew work towards a visit to the Centre to see a presentation of theatre, dance and music to broaden our understanding of the culture of this part of the South Asian sub continent.
