In Our Local Community
The Community Committee meets regularly to decide how to support our local community here in the Vale of Belvoir. During the year ahead we shall once again be making a contribution to the work done in our local communities to help those in need by both First Responders and the Air Ambulance.
We shall continue to support our Memory Cafe held on the last Thursday of every month at 2.00 in Cotgrave church, and we are delighted to have seen attendance gradually grow over the months since we started this project. We have currently have about 40 coming on a regular basis and enjoying a varied programme of activities.
We are also hoping to build on our close relationship with Ashlea School as they move back into their main buildings after a period of refurbishment and extension, and it is always a pleasure to be able to give a copy of "Dictionary for Life" to pupils in all our local Primary Schools as they reach Year 6, before they move on to Secondary School. We also make a significant contribution to the Life Education Programme which goes from strength to strength in schools across Nottinghamshire, enhancing the work done by class teachers in preparing primary-aged children so that they can look after themselves as they grow into young adults.
Two new areas which we hope to support this year include the provision of a Defibrillator for Newton and the Audio books project based in Bingham.
We also have a small fund which we allocate to young people who have a "chance of a lifetime" opportunity to enrich their education, and we are always pleased to receive applications for this.
