This eveniing we had a very interesting talk by Dr Sarkar from the Cambridge University Computer Labs - following a tasty meal. His topic was 'Three Challenges for a successful transition into an AI world.'
1. POLITICS & Legislation - Can it keep up ? When technology can do so much and mimic what people do then how do we assign responsibility and ownership ?
2. ECONOMICS - can the population adjust quickly enough to keep control of the massive and rapid change that is happening in the data & AI world. Is it healthy for a small number of developers in Silicon Valley to dominate the world in this way ?
3. TECHNOLOGY - Now we have control algorithms that learn - how can we ensure their results are reliable and desirable ? Can we trust driverless cars, trains, aeroplanes for example ?
This very topical subject will give us a lot of food for thought !
NOTE - Tomorrow is a Council Meeting in Girton at 7pm (Chair Pres Jan Cooper).
