2016 - 17

This page details how we spent our charitable funds in the local community

The Community Committee had an exciting year under the leadership of David Eldridge in 2016-17. It was a pleasure to be involved with helping to finance the revival of the Sensory Garden at Radcliffe Junior School which it is hoped will be enjoyed by children with additional needs. Another first was the Radfest event held in Radcliffe over the summer. This was a result of extensive consultation within the community and proved to be a very popular event, appealing not just to the younger generation but across the age range as well, and we were pleased to have been asked to support the event.

Individual grants were made from our "community fund" which will have helped young members of our communities to attend a selection of Girl Guiding events, and another young person who took advantage of an opportunity organised by World Challenge to visit Morocco. It was also a huge pleasure to support one of our own, a previous winner of our very own Vale's Got Talent Competition as he pursues his training for the professional stage as a dancer.

Other causes we have traditionally supported include the Trent First Responders, the Air Ambulance, the Life Education programme in Nottingham schools, the provision of Dictionaries for Life to Year 6 pupils in our local Primary Schools and our ever popular Memory Café in Cotgrave.

A final special mention goes to Ashlea School, again in Cotgrave, who are in the midst of a major refurbishment this school year, but it did not prevent them from laying on a memorable event to stimulate and encourage the children's creativity. It started as a day's experience but ended up as nearly two weeks worth of engaging and exciting activities based on the Jeannie Baker's book, "Where the Forest Meets the Sea". Rotary's funding helped to bring in specialists from across the Arts to work alongside the children to produce some stunning results
