Jane Robinson the Chief Operations Officer of Durham University accepted a cheque as the Club's thanks to the university for the continued use of the Territorial Lane Car Park. She also gave us a brief insight into the future plans of the University.
Alf Harold finally did his 'my job' talk, 25 years after joining Rotary - his theme was very much in accord with his phrase "Life is what you make of it." a saying which he ably illustrated in his talk about his early life and career.
Finishing school at 15 Alf was already helping others - many of his fellow students in the top class of 40 needed extra help with their reading and writing and he and some colleagues provided that.
Alf enroled in an Apprenticeship programme and after 5 years gained his Higher National Certificate [at this point Alf again emphasized the extreme importance of qualifications gained through hard work]
After working for the MOD Alf founded his own firm and has never looked back. His success is an illustration of his motto - he worked hard and very much made his own life, although I think he might owe some thanks to Eileen, the power behind the throne !
