George Buckley invited to speak to the Rotary Club of Tywyn
On Thursday 20th July, The Rotary Club of Tywyn was pleased to invite George Buckley from the South Meirionnydd Older People’s Forum to give the club a presentation on the charitable work done by the group for the benefit of older people in the area.
The work of the Forum involves keeping the elderly informed of any relevant day-to-day issues of which they should be aware including advice on benefits and local topical subjects that would be of interest.
The Forum organizes monthly meetings for companionship and to answer questions on any issues that anyone may have. The group also publishes information booklets and organizes social lunches throughout the year such as the Christmas lunch and strawberry teas. All expenses are covered by donations to the Forum. The Group has a total membership of about 150 people and their regular monthly meetings are well attended attracting about 40-50 members.
The club president Nancy Clarke thanked George for an interesting and informative presentation and as is the normal practice with guest speakers at Club meetings, presented him with a cheque for £200 towards the work of the Older People’s Forum.
