Gareth Rees took over as club president from Charles Anderson

A well-attended dinner at the West House Hotel saw the inauguration of a new president for the Rotary Club of Llantwit Major.  Charles Anderson, who had been president for the past two years began the meeting by welcoming Rotarians and guests.  The chief guests were President Matthew James and his wife Jeanne representing the Probus Club of Llantwit Major.   In thanking President Charles for the invitation Mr James  reminded those present that it was this Rotary Club that had brought his successful Probus Club into being in 1987.

After thanking those present for loyal support for the past two years Charles Anderson then handed the chain of office to the new Rotary President, Rtn. Gareth Rees.  Gareth said that he was honoured to follow Charles Anderson who had proved to be a very efficient and effective president.  He looked forward to the year ahead and felt sure he could count on the full support of fellow Rotarians.  Gareth is a former Vice-Principal of Atlantic College and is currently a senior examiner for the International Baccalaureate examination. His first act as president was to present bouquets on behalf of the club to Mary Anderson and Ellie Rees to thank them for their constant support.

Previously, Charles Anderson’s last act as President was to present Rtn. John Clarke with Rotary International’s highest award namely a Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition of his skilful reorganisation of the club in the last year. (The award is named after the founder of the Rotary movement who began the organisation in 1905.)
