Members discuss Club activities

A well-attended business meeting was held at the Rotary Club last week chaired by President Scott Elliot.  The accounts were presented and held up to scrutiny and showed the club to be financially healthy.  The various convenors gave their committee's reports and Junior Vice President Linden Warburton for International said a fund of £200 had been loaned to a group of 18 ladies in Zambia to re-stock their mini supermarket.  She was also looking into having a street collection for a  Hurricane Disaster Appeal Fund.  The next fund raising event is the film night on Saturday, 18th November.  Kerr Scott on Community & Vocational Service said purple crocuses would be planted in Weensland Road at Heronhill in support of the End Polio Now Campaign.  Forty-five trees would be planted at Talla/Gameshope in support of the International Tree Planting Challenge and support would also be considered for the cancer-nursing care at the Borders General Hospital.  Foundation continued to work to eradicate polio and to mark End Polio Now Day shortly would be selling raffle tickets for a limited edition framed print of the Three Bridges.  Every pound (sterling) raised means seven children receive treatment against polio.
