Gus Neilson: Alistair Redpath - Project Hawick

Thu, Nov 23rd 2017 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Weekly meeting with guest speaker.

Hawick Rotary Club was brought into the 21st century on Thursday night when Past President Gus Neilson introduced Alistair Redpath who fully explained his Hawick Project to the members.  By the use of social media such as Facebook and Twitter it promotes anything and everything connected to Hawick to the outside world.  It has been running for five years and its customers include local historians, schools and particularly exiles living abroad who get their information almost instantaneously and so can be kept up-to-date with happenings in the grey auld toon!  It is a record/diary of events, notable occasions and a news reporting media as users can supply and include stories which they want to share with the outside world.  Alistair listed various items of the past five years which have appeared in the Project after which questions and a general discussion ensued before President Scott Elliot gave the club's vote of thanks.
Gale Willmer, London, was a welcome visitor to the club.  The profits from the raffle at the President's Night £428.01p, was divided between Hawick Dementia Cafe and the McMillan Cancer Extension at the BGH.  The Film Night was a success and the profits from that are going to Selkirk Rotary Club's Philippine Project.
