ROTARY HEADS TO OLYMPIC PARK FOR WORLD POLIO DAY

To celebrate World Polio Day on 24th October, Rotary has a day of fun events planned at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, where members from right across the Rotary family will join together to mark the final push to rid the world of polio, and you're all invited!

This free celebration event will include planting more than 30,000 crocus corms in the park, and we will be joined by Purple4Polio Ambassadors Ade Adepitan and Julia Roberts, along with a host of other guests and Olympic Park volunteers.

Rotary GBI President Denis Spiller will be bringing his Purple4Polio Beetle ahead of May’s Rotary Grand Tour and Rotarian Mark Tredwin will also be showing off his Purple4Polio Caterham Academy racing car, which has been helping drive awareness of our polio campaign.

We are welcoming any Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, RotaKids, friends and family to come along and get involved. If you can, bring your Rotary or purple clothing, a hand fork or trowel, and get your green fingers at the ready!

The day’s meeting point will be on the bridge leading to Stadium outside the Aquatic Centre (please note: not at the lower level main entrance to the Aquatic Centre) at 11.30am.

Other events are scheduled throughout the day, including illuminating the park’s fountains in purple, selfie opportunities, meeting Rotary Polio Bear, and purple pinkie painting. We would love your help and support please. Ade Adepitan will stay with us all day and will start off the mass crocus planting for a late afternoon reception at 'The Last Drop', Olympic Park.

Earlier on World Polio Day (around 10am) Ade will be taking part in a fun wheelchair basketball match involving the British Wheelchair Basketball Team at Trafalgar Square supported by Rotary and One Last Push.

If you are able to join us at the Olympic Park from 11.30am, please email Rotary GBI Polio Champion Jannine Birtwistle as soon as possible so we have an idea of numbers.
