10.66 Mass Walk

Senlac Rotarian, Peter Cocker, in his personal capacity, organised the 10.66 Mass Walk that was held as part of the Hastings Day celebrations. PC, as he is known, liaised with Hastings Borough Council, Active Hastings and Active Rother to get the event of the ground and received tremendous support from them including the printing of publicity material, stickers and certificates. The aim of the walk was to get 1,066 walkers walking 10.66 kilometres, starting at 10.66 am (six minutes past eleven). Walkers set off from two points, Sea Road in St Leonards and the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, at the same time to walk to the other start point and return. With Happy Harold, the vintage trolley bus, overseeing the scene Hastings Mayor Judy Rogers, accompanied by a trumpet fanfare, cut the tape to release more than 150 walkers on their way; as she did so over 50 started from Bexhill.

PC said afterwards,” I’m over the moon. We had over 200 people take part in the first ever 10.66 walk and I am sure numbers will increase in future years; I will certainly go ahead again. The feedback I’ve had has been great. I’d like to thank all those who helped get the event of the ground and those, including a number of Senlac Rotarians, who helped on the day”.
