Minutes of the Meeting

Held on Thursday, April 16th 2018

                                             At The Golf Club, Chestfield

            Robert’s guests were Emma, the 15 year-old daughter of Eric Van Engelen    of RC Apeldoorn and her friend Mila Baars who are visiting England to           improve their English.     Not that it needs much improving as they gave us   a short talk on their life in Holland with an impressive command of     English.

David Bowley;

            Jackie has visited David who is recovering from the operation on his back     on April 21st.     David is still tired and in some pain and the Club sent him            their very best wishes for a good recovery.

Ron Benning:

            Congratulations to Ron on becoming a grand-dad for the first time.

Robert Sissons:

            Good luck to Robert who will be taking part in Demelza 101 a cycle ride to    Paris.

TWAM Collection – Saturday, April 21st:

            The collection was very successful and Andrew M. estimates that one full       van and about two thirds of a second were filled.      Many thanks are due   to Andrew and Jean who have organised the collection for the past few   years.    They have decided not to continue next year and Ron has very             kindly offered to take it on.

Catching Lives:

            Attached is a scan of a letter of thanks from Catching Lives for the bedding    the Club collected.

Saturday, April 28th – Gardening at the Whitstable and Tankerton Hospital:

            More volunteers would be very welcome at the Whitstable and Tankerton    Hospital as numbers are a bit short.    If you can help starting at 9.00 am   please just turn up.

Saturday, April 28th – District Assembly:

            The District Assembly will be held on Saturday, April 28th between 9.00        am and 1.00 pm and Pat, Sue and David M. will be there.

Sunday, May 6th – Ron and Irene’s Olde English Cream and Strawberry Tea:

            Don’t forget Ron and Irene’s Summer Garden Party between 2.00 and 6.00   pm on Sunday, May 6th.

Thursday, May 17th – Annual General Meeting:

            The AGM has been rescheduled from May 24th to May 17th the notice has      been circulated.    

Sunday, May 20th – Car Parking at Whitstable:

            The Club has been very fortunate to be allocated weekends car parking         sessions until January next year.   The next session will be on Sunday, May       20th  as several regular helpers will be away on the day, volunteers are   badly needed.    If you can help, even if only for a while , please sign up.

Thursday, May 24th:

            The Golf Club is not available for breakfast on Thursday, May 24th and           Godfrey is organising an alternative venue.     This has necessitated a         change of date for the AGM.

Thursday, May 31st:

            Thursday, May 31st will be an evening meeting at the Golf Club.    Guests         are very welcome.   There is a form in the folder to sign up but this is a        regular Club meeting and everyone is expected to attend unless apologies        are sent to Godfrey in the usual way.      The menu will be a beef and pork             carvery with a vegetarian option followed by lemon meringue pie, tea and     coffee.    The cost will be £18.00 per person but drinks are not included.

Weekend of June 8th to 10th – Visit to Apeldoorn:

            Twelve members have signed up to go on the visit to Apeldoorn.   Linda,       Andrew’s opposite number at RC Apeldoorn, will be in the UK and plans     to join the Club for the meeting on May 17th.

Friday, June 29th – Table Tennis Evening:

            Dave C. has arranged a Table Tennis Evening on Friday, June 29th at 7.00      for 7.30 pm at the Chestfield Warriors Table Tennis Club, Unit 33A, Joseph            Wilson Industrial Park, CT5 3PS.     The cost of the evening will be £10.00           per person to include light refreshments and a donation to the table             tennis club.

Saturday, July 15th – Summer Beach BBQ:

            On Saturday, July 15th the Samba Band will be walking from Hampton to        Whitstable with a stop for a Summer Beach BBQ at Long Rock.     They leave from Hampton Pier at 12.30 and need volunteers to collect money            along the way.   There is a form in the folder so please sign up to help.

Saturday, August 11th - Whitstable Harbour Day:

   Pat and Sue are organising the Club participation in Whitstable Harbour        day on August 11th and would be glad if everyone who can help, even if     only for an hour or so, could sign up on the form in the folder.

Saturday, October 20th – Murder Mystery Evening, Whitstable Castle:

            Pat is organising a Murder Mystery Evening at Whitstable Castle on    Saturday, October 20th.      These evenings are booked up very quickly and she needs to know as soon as possible how many are interested so that a   Club booking can be made.    There is a form in the folder.

Greetings from Other Clubs:

            Robert brought greetings from the new partner Club of Canterbury    Sunrise from Aachen in Germany.     Spryos brought greetings from RC   Saffron Walden.

Master of Alms:

            Hilary did the honours.

Raffle:

            David M. won a bottle of wine.
