The Makunduchi Project and the Health Improvement Project, Zanzibar
We welcomed Dr Rona Walker to the club to give us an update on HIPZ (Health Improvement Project Zanzibar).
We also took the opportunity for the Club to present her with a cheque to help support their work in Zanzibar, which will be put towards developing the new Clinic which has been built to take pressure from the Hospitals.
HIPZ now provide support for Mental as well as physical illness, with the main challenge being to get a reliable supply of drugs from the Government in order to maintain care.
We were fascinated to learn that as a result of HIPZ there are now 350,000 people who have access to Health Care who had no provision before, which is an incredible achievement.
Footnote:
This is a project that we have supported in the past, (January 2015) particularly with our links with Nailsea and Backwell Club with a previous Global Grant..
